Crosby named winner of Messier Award

He also funds and serves as an on-ice instructor for the Penguins' Learn to Play Program that introduces the game to youngsters and, with support from Reebok, outfits them from head to toe.

Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan and Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller were the other two finalists.

Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames won the award last season. Chris Chelios of the Chicago Blackhawks and Mats Sundin from the Toronto Maple Leafs won in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
